Mother! of all reviews

Hey ya’ll, we’re back.

Why we’ve not been active is a mystery. And when you uncover this mystery, it’s going to get weird. Just like the movie we’re going to talk about today.

Mother!

A psychological thriller starring Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem in lead roles, this movie is weird to say the least. Good weird as there’s a smart connection between the story and the characters. One of those rare pieces of cinema that take the characters and build a story around them instead of doing the contrary.

The director Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a dream, Black Swan) in fact, has taken a few characters and reverse engineered a story around them.

Each character introduced into the proceedings, adds to the mystery being set up in each scene. In our opinion, the movie was a tad too long, and that made the thrills seem less thrilling. The lag in story-line progress seemed justified as towards the end you realise it’s about establishing the characters

We recommend giving it a watch if you’re into the whole ‘dafuq did I just see’ genre of cinema.

Here’s the trailer.

As much as you try to predict the story of the movie from the trailer, trust us it’s not going to happen.

In fact, there’s a great chance you won’t be able to get the entire story even after watching the movie. This is not us underestimating you, but the fact that there are so many articles and videos online enquiring and assuming and confirming the ending of the movie, it just fits.

For those who would like the context before watching the movie, continue reading. Otherwise, STAHP!

Spoiler/Explanation here on

This movie is an allegory on the bible. It talks about (without explicitly mentioning it) God, Gaia, Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, and the human population that follows. There’s also a bit of Jesus.
